I used to commute from Alexandria to Chevy Chase. Starting work at 7am helped beat most of the backups in Va. The worst traffic I ran into was from the Legion bridge around to Connecticut Ave. To avoid it, I'd get off the Beltway and take the Clara Barton Pkwy/MacArthur to Goldsboro to Bradley to Connecticut. Never checked to see if it saved any time, but at least I was moving. Same deal on the way home.

I never looked into metro, but Chevy Chase is a healthy walk from either the Bethesda or Silver Spring station.

Bon voyage!
