UNVA is about 11yrs and should not be compared to GMU. About 300 students of UNVA has H1B visas and a lot of them are making big money with many different companies in the U.S. If their degrees are not recognized, how come they are working for such big companies? If you write GRE or GMAT that does not make you a better student or professional.

You can get CPT or OPT with UNVA. Not many schools do have CPT for their students. This program allows students to work full time anywhere in the U.S and as a result, many students have gotten H1B visas.

Not to knock on GMU, as it's definitely improving it's reputation and developed into a much better school than it was maybe 10 years ago or so.

But you'd be silly to think that they'll pass VT in engineering due to their new buildings looking promising or otherwise. While Mason is improving their facilities, all the other universities across the country are also improving. VT is top 10-15 in most engineering programs currently, and while they are improving leaps and bounds every year, I have a hard time seeing them moving up to much in the rankings over the next decade or so either. It takes a long long time to establish the reputation and rigor of a top program, and it's also something that the current elite/top programs aren't going to give up easily.

I don't see any state-Virginia programs passing VT in engineering in the foreseeable future; it's their bread and butter program, and they only continue to make massive improvements each year as well.

Mason is a great school and has been gaining an improved reputation. It's still a regional reputation though, and a lot of that is due to it's proximity to DC and its powerful economy. It's far from tops in the country and competing with the nation's elite programs though.

UNVA was raided by ICE and forced to close its doors in late July 2011. UNVA was allegedly a front for securing student visas for what would otherwise be illegal immigrants.

This thread is ancient. The last post was a year old--until someone somehow dug it up today and decided it was due to be bumped to the top.

Let's all ignore it and watch it slide back into oblivion where it belongs, shall we?
