Glad to hear Archstone is nice! I'm looking into renting with either them or The Reserve starting February 2009 and I can't pick between the two.

I've lived in four different apartments in NOVA.

The first was too far out (Woodbridge) but at the time I thought the lower rent was attractive.

It is great to post reviews, but I'll share my bottom line for people moving here:

- It has to be close to work. I bet you'll be happy if your daily jaunt to work is less than 10 miles by car, or a short walk / aparment shuttle to the metro. Let the home owners sit in traffic or on public transportation for 30 min- 1 Hour. Apartment renters should have 15 minute commutes. Once I reallized this and moved close to work, I was happy, even though the rent was a bit higher.

- You can't put a price on peace and quiet, nor can you "review" it. The biggest problem in apartments is noise. If you get lucky, you'll be able to sleep at night, but things change. A year ago, I thought my place was great, but you have a few new people move in, and every night something wakes you up. Honestly, my complex has gone downhill so fast in the last six months, it's like I'm paying $2K a month to live in a trailer park (and I've lived in one before). Game on late? They're screaming curse-words at the TV so loud it echos in the courtyard. Fight with the GF? Stand on the balcony and shout into the cell phone. Just got off work at the club at 4 AM? Scream at your dog to "go potty" in the courtyard. Have a few beers outside? Leave the bottles behind since they are pretty and greeen.

So when looking, look as close to work as you can afford, and hope for peace and quiet, or a piece of quiet.
