Random photos of Loudoun County
Here are various photos of Loudoun County.
Let's start with Lowes Island. These were taken on a rainy day last fall when we had a city-data challenge to take a walk around your neighborhood and let everyone else see what you see while walking. Here's what I took:

There's a walking trail that goes behind this neighborhood called "Pot of Gold" becuase the trees turn gold in the fall and the forsythia bloom in the spring. Note the Prius--pretty typical car for this neighborhood. Five years ago it was hummers, but they're gone now.

Lots of little green areas through Lowes Island, plus houses on pipestems.

Most of the houses are "colonial" but there are other styles, such as this Craftsman house.

Townhouses. By the way, this was shot on trash day, so you can see what the garbage bins look like.

More of Lowes Island.

Shopping plaza at Algonkian and Lowes Island Blvd. includes restaurants, Bloom, Rite-Aid, and various other stores. There's a great pub called Velocity 5. The clock tower houses a large animal clinic--pets are very big here.

There are walking trails all over Lowes Island, connecting various neighborhoods, stores, and schools. You usually see people out walking or jogging, even in the rain.

More townhouses.

Typical SFH neighborhood. This is Compton Circle.

More of Lowes Island
The main roads are wide, and traffic isn't that bad once the morning rush hour dies down. This was taken at about 11:00 a.m., and I felt safe standing in the middle of the street while I took it.

A walking path that leads by a playground in the woods. This particular path leads to the river and a "nature loop" that goes around an inlet often called Heron Lake. The Heritage Trail crosses near here--you can take that to Great Falls National Park.

A typical street shot.

This trail leads to Algonkian Park. You cross a pretty bridge over Sugarland Run. Some people say this spillway is what people mean by "Potomac Falls."

Yet another walking trail. Boy, I sure like taking photos of these, don't I?

More of Lowes Island

Ever wonder what those McMansion look like from behind? Like this!

Community Center has meeting rooms, gym, tennis and a pool.

The gym.

Not every house is a McMansion. This house is typical, too.

Next, we have random shots around Loudoun. I don't know why these shots are so vibrant--maybe the kids were playing around in PhotoShop?

North of Leesburg

North of Leesburg

Algonkian Parkway

Apples for sale at a roadside stand.

Lowes Island Blvd. in Sterling (Potomac Falls section).

This guy lives in Frying Pan Park, which is just over the border in Fairfax County. He's the presidential turkey that gets a pardon for Thanksgiving. Isn't it ironic that he spends the rest of his life in Frying Pan Park?

More random Loudoun

Townhouses on Waterview Road get a nice view of the Potomac once the leaves fall.

Once you get west of Leesburg you start seeing the mountains. Of course, this shot was taken quite a bit west of Leesburg.

Lowes Island Country Club viewed from Lowes Island Blvd.

Lowes Island Blvd in February. In the summer, you don't see most of the houses. Then the leaves fall--and the neighborhoods appear.

Every house they build these days seems to have a giant jacuzzi tub. And if you're going to have a luxury like this Loudounites like to surround it with artwork and candles.

Great pictures.
I moved here (Leesburg) at the end of last year and just LOVE it. This is without a doubt a beautiful area, and your pictures prove it!

Normie your pictures really made my day. I am moving to NOVA next spring and have been feeling so depressed today about selling my beautiful home and moving from my wonderful neighborhood in northern MD. As soon as I saw your pictures I perked right up. They remind me of where I live now but with more mountain views. Thank you so much!
