We are flying in to go house hunting in a couple of weeks (23rd to 26th). We've almost 100% decided on Herndon (south of the toll road - i believe is best).

So its not all house, house, house what else should we do while we are there to see the best of the local area? Oh and where should we eat?

Already planning to go to the Pumpkin Glow night on Oct 25th in Bluemont.

Thanks

I've just gone to their website and my work firewall has denied me access due to the sexual content! What sort of place is it?

Try The Ice House, their crab cakes are excellent and Zeffirelli Ristorante, for their Veal chops; they are both in downtown Herndon.

I agree with the Ice House - Great crab cakes and steaks! I've had only very expensive so-so meals at Zefirelli's - I think it is over rated. My favorite Italian in Herndon is Luciano's - 1050 Elden St.

I'm suprised they have a website - I can't find it. This is a home cooking mexican place.

I googled Teocalli Tamale and the first thing that came up was a restaurant in "Crested Butte" Colorado. No joke! I bet that's why your work blocked it LOL.

ETA: I live in Herndon and I have a toddler so there aren't too many places we eat out at. I'm no help there, but we do love to go downtown and get something from Dairy Queen (cheap soft serve ice cream) and sit and watch passersby on the W&OD trail. That's right by The Ice House, there are some cool little shops right there too.

I grew up in Herndon and my Mom still lives there, I just love that town!! You will love the Friday Night Live on the Green near the library in the summers, the biking trail, the Homecoming Parade, and more. You are also so near Reston Town Center and all its restaurants as well as old town Leeburg (which actually has an English pub, or it did last time I looked). A great place to eat is Herndon this newer Indian Restaurant in the Old post office building on Elden St. My hubby and I go there when we can get the grandparents to mind the kids :-) If you are from England, Im guessing you like curries as well (my husband is from UK and Loves them!)

Poopy00 - is there a specific reason that you want to look south of the toll road? there are many homes for sale in herndon. i'd consider looking in the older portion of herndon, near the center of town. i drove thru there the other day and there seems to be a variety of older, smaller places and newer, larger homes.

i'd suggest the "tortilla factory" for lunch/dinner.

i lived in herndon for many years, and always enjoyed it. hopefully you will also.

I've read a few things on here about the area around Alabama/Elden area but I suppose everyone has differing opinions. What would you class the centre? Near Runnymeade Park?

I'd love to hear about your opinions of the different areas as sometimes I do wonder if people who offer opinions on here dont even live in the area.

We'll be renting so I dont know if that affects where we live.
