you also need to realize that you have only been there for 6 months. they have built a ton of roads over the last couple of years. they built up all those subdivisions in that area before they built any roads. I am sure it's better now, but there was a time when it was horrible.

The homes are priced nicely and it is quite. I moved here about 6 months ago. I think it is a great area. The only complaints about traffic are the Nissan Pavilion traffic and the Beltway. Both of which are avoidable. I really don't fee like traffic is as bad as people make it out to be.

Are there still some rural areas nearby, say in the Bull Run Mountain area? I'm looking for a smaller home/cabin with at least a couple of acres.

I understand. But I feel like when we were looking into moving up here people really made me worry about the commute. People still think we are crazy for driving an hour. I just wanted to say that I really don't feel like it is that bad.

You are so correct. A couple of years ago it would take sometimes 45 mintues just to drive 1 mile to get to I-66 from Gainesville during the morning rush. Now it takes about 5 minutes to get to I-66 during rush.

Thasnk you all for your suggestions.
Gainesville has been hit hard by foreclosures and Centreville hasn't held up in value b/c it's so far out past the beltway.

Also, the ES and MS schools in Centreville are really good, but the HS's are mediocre. Gainesville schools aren't as good as Centreville schools.

Since you're working in Chantilly, anywhere east of that location along I66 would work for you since you'll be driving against traffic, but of course, the homes cost more as you head more east/northeast.

Umm, you say it's not bad b/c you leave at 6am. That's the sacrifice you're making. If you instead left around 7:30, you'd be in world of hurt on a daily basis, both ways.

no offense, but I think people who commute an hour each way to work are crazy. I did it for a while, and would never do it again.

Even at 6am it's too late to avoid traffic. You'd want to be on the road by 5am to avoid traffic. At around 5:45 - 6:00am, traffic starts to backup and continues to around 10am.
