We are going to be working on the Quantico Marine Corps Base for a couple of weeks and are looking for a hotel close to the entrance gates. I have heard the commute into the base can be devilish. Any suggestions on if I should be looking at a hotel in Stafford or in Dumfries? Many thanks.

There is a new Holiday Inn just off of I95 exit 152. From there it would be an easy ride south to the base.

If you're looking for a good 3 star hotel I would go with the Hampton Inn off of the PW Pkwy/95 exit. The area the base is in isn't the best. The Holiday Inn is brand new, but it's surrounded by older stuff. Some guy got stabbed at the Waffle House about three weeks ago, not the best place to stay.

Hadn't heard about that. We ate breakfast there about a week ago.
I don't think of it as a bad area though.

That immediate area isn't the best. The Econo Lodge across the street tends to attract some of the drug crowd and other questionable characters. It all depends on what time you visit as well. Having options though, I would rather stay at the Potomac Mills area than the 234/Rt1 area.

Agreed on the Econo Lodge. Just driving by I have never thought of it as even close to decent.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn off 234 in Dumfries....I live in Southbridge which is in Dumfries. The holiday Inn is nie and I would reccommend it.
