I may be taking a law enforcement position in the DC area early next year. I'll be renting I've been reviewing info on Arlington so far it looks good. If I live near the Metro the orange line would be my first choice.

If I can rent in a house further out with rates better then an apt complex in the Metro area at a minimum it has to have access to a bus that goes to the Metro as a car would be optional at a later date.

I would prefer my own space as opposed to sharing space in a section of a house or in a complex. Trying to stay below $1500 two BR's & two baths would be great. Thanks in advance any suggestions?

I dont' know much about the area as I just moved from the NYC area, but its definitely cheaper away from the metro. *Most* apartments near the metro are more than 1500. But the apartments are nicer and have more ammenities than anything near that price in NYC. I pay 1500 and live between Courthouse and Rosslyn, but don't have my own parking space. Check out this place called Myerton. ITs pretty cheap, and I think there is a bus there. ITs really close to DC, but is pretty inconvenient to a metro. There is plenty of parking...

For $1500, you may get a 2B apt or a really nice 1B in most places that are convenient to Arlington and/or the Orange Line metro. A second bedroom may be a stretch.

Options within your range may increase out in Loudoun or Prince William counties but so will your commute.

That said, there are likely a number of condo and homeowners who may be willing to rent out their spaces for less than many apartments. Check the "usual" realtor and social network sites for those.

I agree. Most places offer a 1 bedroom for $1500 or less but if you're looking at 2 bedrooms it won't be a very nice place at that price. Use apartments.com and Craigslist to see what you can afford.
