I did a search on Springfield Mall and read all the comments about people concerned with the crime in the area although it sounds like the area is in the mist of revitalization. Based on location, it's in my favor but I will also look into the Kingstowne area as well. The Belle View area seems good location wise but I'm looking for something modern so I suppose that's out of the question.

I really appreciate everyone chipping in their 2 cents!

I think it is pretty safe to say that the Springfield Mall crime is pretty confined to the mall area. I think Island Creek has some rental apts as well which is very close to Kingstowne and more importantly for you, to Belvoir.

Springfield chic, that's kind of funny! The rentals in Kingstowne and Island Creek might be a little beyond your budget because there are few one-bedrooms. However I see on realtor.com that Manchester Lakes which is next to Kingstowne has places for $1400. It's modern and safe so worth taking a look at. Zip code 22310 (Kingstowne is 22315).

I was just going to chime in with Manchester Lakes. Those tend to run a little cheaper than Kingstowne, with all the same nearby amenities. Check rentals on militarybyowner.com, there were some smaller condos listed on there in zip 22315 awhile back. It might be more negotiable to get a rental from someone private vs a complex.

I work on Belvoir (actually at one of the sites on the outskirts and don't have to enter the main gates) and live in Kingstowne, easiest commute I have ever had.
