Rick's Carpet & Flooring on Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, tiled my kitchen floor last year. Had to do a little more follow-up than I think I should have with the salesman to get things moving, but maybe that's just the way things are these days.
The installers did a fabulous job. I am extremely happy with the result and would use them again. They now also have a home remodeling annex.

Speaking about Herndon, there's an Indian restaurant (near the Herndon fortnightly library) which has awesome Samosas.

We were thinking of contacting them to see if they can stretch the carpet. We had carpeting installed and w/i a couple yrs. it stretched and we have "buckles" - carpet is perfectly fine condition-wise. I pass by their location and it seem like something they would do, we'll check into them, thanks.

Cafe Rumi - Ashburn.
Excellent desert selection. Found it last weekend, very good.
Quality is at or above Whole Foods and other bakeries in the DC area.

I get my hair cut by Leila at the Hair Cuttery in Lansdowne Town Center. She is great! Can't beat the price either.

My favorite Chinese food restaurant is South China on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Del Ray! They have SUCH good food and are so friendly. We eat in and take out - they know us so well that when we walk in they start my son's favorite dish so that it has time to cool. If you order take out you get an egg roll, spring roll or soda for free - your choice.

Cheng's Chinese Restaurant in Sterling, VA
Recently discovered it. Excellent food. Got Peking Duck to go there a few times, and its been very good.

I didn't read through every post in the thread, so my apologies if this has already been added:
Steven's Auto Clinic
in Alexandria is, in our opinion, the best place for car care anywhere. Steve, the owner, has an almost freakishly encyclopedic knowledge of the inner and outer workings of seemingly every car ever made. Better yet, he's honest as can be: He's actually sent us home on occasion with the assurance that we really can wait a few hundred miles before spending that few hundred dollars.
Even though we're getting ready to move from Alexandria to Bristow, we're still planning to take our cars all the way to Steve when they need love. He's like a member of the family.
