Salon Mint is is my absolute favorite new salon. I can't say enough about them.

Salon Mint
10384 Willard Way, Fairfax, VA 22030
(703) 218-4113 ‎

They get tons of high reviews on Yelp.com. (I've reviewed them, too).

Prices are awesome for a salon that's as talented and accommodating as they are!

The wife and I ate at Jackson's at Reston Town Center over the weekend and we both thouroughly enjoyed it. I had the best Blackened Prime Rib I've ever eaten for my dinner and the wife loved her Crab Cakes. The Wild Rice with Almonds I had were excellent. Service was great and the prices were decent. This is one of the restaurants in the Great American chain. I'll definitely go back.

Thanks for the review Bigfoot - I've been wondering - used to be a regular at...brain freeze: the one off Fairfax Circle. I seldom get to Reston but if we do, we'll check it out!.

La Caraquena Latin restaurant in Falls Church.

A few months ago I happened to be watching a segment of the Food Network program "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." Guy Fiere happened to be in the kitchen of a Latin-flavor Falls Church restaurant, so being a Novarian I paid closer attention. The chef-owner is a Venezuelan, and the restaurant occupied the small walled-off corner of an in-town motel office. I recognized the motel, the Stratford on W. Broad St. So my wife and I finally had a chance to patronize the place last night for dinner, and I have to say the experience exceeded our expectations. The seating area is indeed small, but every inch is put to maximum use. There's an outside seating area for nice weather dining. The staff is exceptionally professional--very attentive and polite to all diners. Our selections were Venezuelan sandwiches, mine chicken and my wife's beef. Outstanding! Here's the restaurant's website: La Caraquena

A little Googling today revealed past articles about the place in local media. Here's a Washingtonian article: Surprising Latin American Charmer in Falls Church - Best Bites Blog (washingtonian.com), and here's a Washington Post critique: Critic Review for La Caraquena in Falls Church, VA on washingtonpost.com

If you are looking for something new and different--but casual-- in dining, try it. I recommend reservations on Friday and Saturday evenings.

We were in town recently as we are moving to the area in a few months. We ate at Sweetwater Tavern in Centreville. They brew their own beer, which was good, but the food was divine. Great atmosphere too!

Loudoun Lawn and Pest
Pest Control Leesburg | Pest Control Northern Virginia | Loudoun Lawn & Pest Management

I signed up with them last year for ongoing treatment. Every time I have an issue, Casey shows up within a day or two. And it's clear to me that he knows what he's doing based on how he explains things to me. Thumbs up for Casey and Loudoun Lawn and Pest!

For TRASH REMOVAL -- JUNK KING FAIRFAX!!!! These guys are professional and caring. When a woman was being evicted for foreclosure, they were called by the bank to pick up her discards -- she started to throw out an original, framed Maxfield Parrish print (!!!) and they brought it over to her and told her how valuable it was and that she should hold onto it or sell it. Who does things like that any more??? :-)

Chicken Pollo near Backlick Rd. and rt 236 in Annandale if it's still there. They make the best Peruvian chicken and you can't beat the price. We like the music too.
