I need the orange/blue line to DC/Dupont/Farragut and he needs the yellow to the Pentagon. We don't have cars and want easy city/work accessibility. We have about 1800/mo for rent. Thoughts and opinions appreciated. Thank you!

Blue goes to Pentagon too, so it looks like you could both go anywhere on the Blue Line.

I lived in Pentagon City for years and liked it, and I rarely needed my car to get necessities, since there's lots of shopping right there. They also have Zipcars if you ever do want to get out.

Problem is that locale is going to be more than your 1800 threshold. Probably more like 2000-2500 for basic 2-bedrooms. If you wanted to share a one-bedroom you could definitely do it for under 1800.

Maybe check out the neighborhood right around Braddock Rd. Metro station. There are a few shady spots around there, but it seems like it would fit the other criteria- walkable, right around 1800 for 2-bedrooms in the Meridian.

Anywhere on the Blue line from King St. to the Pentagon is also on the Yellow line.

Yeah Old Town is cheaper than Pentagon City or the District. I know a couple that lives in Old Town and one doesn't drive. She gets around just fine walks to the King Street metro. Walks to the Giant in Old Town so that's a thought that's a little cheaper than Dupont or Pentagon City. But Pentagon City would probably be a better option than Old Town. Capitol Hill seems to be a little cheaper so you might want to look at that.

Only problem with Old Town is that the places that are cheaper are not right around King St. Metro. The reason I didn't recommend it is that they said they wanted quick access to the city, which I don't think you can get for around 1800 in Old Town. Other than that, I agree with you that Old Town is a very nice, walkable part of the city.

In DC try looking around Capitol Hill or the Waterfront area close to L'Enfant. You can take the orange or blue line to Farragut/Foggy Bottom (15 minutes) and your roommate is one metro stop from the Pentagon on the yellow line. You'll also be able to walk to Capitol Hill, Penn Quarter, the Mall, and Chinatown/Gallery Place.

In VA look near Crystal City, Pentagon City, or maybe Old Town. Old Town can be tricky to get something affordable, but you could get lucky. In N. Arlington (Clarendon, Courthouse, etc.) your roommate would have to switch lines at Rosslyn, but I don't know how bad that would really be. You'd just be a straight shot to Foggy Bottom/Farrugut on the Orange.
