Default Kindergarten/preschool in/near Falls Church City

Hello all -

I've recently found this forum, have been reading the threads and finding them really helpful - so thanks in advance!

Our family will be moving to Falls Church City next summer. I'll have one child in the 2nd grade at the public school but have another son who misses the kindergarten cutoff by one month. I feel he is ready and would love to enroll him but just reading the entry requirements, the cut-off seems quite strict. In CA (where we are from) or France (where we currently are) he would be going directly in K, but it seems VA is different that way. Has anyone had luck with a waiver or advice to offer there? For what it is worth, my older son is in a gifted program and assume my younger will test that way as well.

Alternatively, I am assuming that he will be going to another year of preschool or a private kindergarten program. I'm not too familiar with what is available and would love some suggestions!

Some information about my son: he currently attends all-day preschool in France, loves it, and speaks fluent French (as well as native English). At this point I don't think he would be content with only a few mornings per week. Ideally we would prefer a non-religious curriculum. It would be great if there was some way he could continue with his French (and for my older son too - maybe after school?). Are there any programs that are more kindergarten-like rather than preschool-like?

thanks so much for any help you can offer!

Hi...I recently found out about CommuniKids in Falls Church. Beginning in September 2009, it will offer both a Spanish and a French immersion preschool program. I don't know much more than what is on the website. I'm looking into it for the Spanish program for my daughter. Good luck!
