Default Husband has orders to Quantico, housing help greatly needed!

My husband has orders to Quantico. He is there right now looking for housing while I am back at our old duty station. So I am doing tons of research on the area, schools, homes and getting frustrated. He has looked at homes with an agent but he has not found anything yet. A few houses that seemed like possiblities had some issues. Our limit would be about $300,000. Is that even possible?
Anyway, if you are in the area (20min. or less commute to MCB Quantico) and love where you live with good schools to boot, please tell me where about to look. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, you could look a little to the north, and assuming a more or less "normal" work schedule, your husband would have a reverse commute - would be going against the traffic both morning and evening ... for the most part. Places like Dumfries, Triangle, Montclair (somewhat pricey), even Woodbridge. There's expensive and inexpensive housing available in most of these areas - school quality would vary.

South of Quantico there's Garrisonville, Aquia, Aquia Harbor, and Stafford further down. Possible advantage - the cost of housing is generally less as you move further away from D.C. Disadvantage - that "normal" work schedule could mean lots of traffic both morning and evening.

We're in Dale City, north of and probably 30 minutes away from Quantico and therefore probably not quite close enough to be considered.

How about Montclair? I saw some nice looking homes for just +/- $300K, and it would be less than 20 minutes, against traffic to Quantico. This is the search I used. Hopefully the link works.

Thanks so much for the helpful info.
My husband has looked in Montclair, Dumfries, Triangle, Aquia Harbor, Wide Water, and drove around Stafford. I don't think he is really loving Stafford because he thinks the commute will be bad.
I think our biggest issue is trying to find the right school and balance that with the commute. So I guess what I am really asking is for first hand info. about schools your kids attend. What housing subdivisions are nice and family friendly in the above mentioned areas. Also what about Bristow? Is that too far? It sounded like the elem. school, Bristow Run is great.

Also I came across another post that someone was talking about the town of Quantico and how they had moved there in Sept. If that person should check this post, I would really like to ask him/her some questions.

Thanks again, I really do appreciate all the time and effort you all took to help me out.

Ashland, Henderson, Pattie, and Montclair ES are some of the elementaries that come to mind. Ashland ES is in the Ashland subdivision, but students from neighborhoods such as Winding Creek feed into it. The others are in Montclair. All would be a short drive to Quantico. My son attends Ashland.

Proudmarinewife,
My husband is stationed at Quantico and we live in Bristow. I have heard excellent things about Bristow Run elementary, as well as the other elementary schools out this way.

However, the commute would be much more than 20 minutes. My husband takes the 619 the whole way down. It takes about 1/2 hour to get from the corner of Linton Hall/Sudley Manor Drive in Bristow, to the main gate of Quantico in Triangle--then it often takes a little while just to get through the gate and then through the base to where ever it is he actually works.

My husband doesn't mind the commute, the 619 is a beautiful drive, there isn't really "traffic" or stop lights or anything. We moved here from Pendleton about 2 years ago and back there we lived in Oceanside, he was just a 5 minute commute to work, so I was worried that this long commute would seem too long for him after that--but he doesn't seem to mind.
