Looks like your next task is to find a wife, who you can split the rent with

In my opinion, there is *no way* that a commute to Tysons could compensate or compete to/with living close to your job. I think that living in Tysons (within walking distance) should be worth several hundred dollars in your budget - think of time, gas, mileage, maintenance, everything.

A budget of $1300 is doable. I just rented a small one-bedroom in Tysons for $1200 [plus utilities]. The new Harris Teeter is opening up in January and I'll be within walking distance, though I'm not a huge fax of Harris Teeter. Why are they so expensive??
Good luck with your move!

The rent money he would save by having a wife would be offset by the money he'll be spending on: courtship, wedding ring, wedding, honeymoon, divorce settlement, alimony, and child support payments.

Darksword,
I called up Post and chatted with a nice lady. The fees sounded really high though... $450 for application, $150 annual fee for amenities and then deposit...
I read on a few websites that people's cars have been vandalized in the underground parking garage?
Any experiences? Thanks

I haven't heard anything out cars being vandalized in the underground parking garage since I've been here. I only park in there when it's below freezing to avoid getting ice all over my windshield in the morning. So far, I haven't had any problems.
And yes, the rent is a bit high. When I moved here I just wanted something close to work that was in the center of everything and Tyson's Corner fit the bill. I will likely be looking for a cheaper place though once my lease is up.

oleo, did you do a cost of living calculator between Richmond and the Tyson's Corner, to figure out what kind of money you would need to be making there for it to be the same as Richmond? Just curious. Or is this a job fresh out of college?

First job out of college.
In Richmond, I was planning to spend about $900-1000 for a 1brd and I was looking for a salary no less than $40k.
I made a budget with my salary and $1375 rent, and it looks like I'll be able to do it. My goal is to save at least $750 a month. Rice & Beans for dinner.
