Peking Gourmet Inn is not real Chinese food. It's always crowded, but it's medicore American or somewhat Cantonese style Chinese food. Try Tempt Asian in Landmark or China Star in Fairfax. Mark's Duck House is the best dim sum in the area. Lucky Three across the street from Peking Gourmet Inn or New Fortune in Gaithersburg are honorable mentions. Best sushi is Kaz in DC and it ain't cheap. They have a license to serve Fugu too. Best Pho I think is on Lee Hwy. across from the K-Mart in Fairfax, forget the name.

I guess I should distinguish between Cantonese and Sichuan style Chinese restaurants. Tempt Asian and China Star are Sichuan and they are as good as it gets. I've spent plenty of time in Chengdu and Chongqing and trust me when I say those two restaurants are as close as it gets to the real thing. For Cantonese I'd recomment Full Kee in Bailey's Crossroads. There's one in Tysons caddy corner from HBL, I think called Oriental Regency that gets an honorable mention and Vinh Kee on Rt. 50 in Falls Church ain't bad. There's also a great Pho place in the same shopping center as Vinh Kee. For more northern Chinese style, AJ's on Markham St. in Annandale is AWESOME. It's part of the Kam Sam grocery store.

Tempt Asian is hard to find. It's in the same shopping center as the Grand Mart on 236 in Landmark on the Annandale side of 395. There's a KFC and IHOP in the same shopping center. Across from the Grand Mart is a small building and that's where Tempt Asian is. It's THE BEST. They have the old chef from China Star and I feel terrible that the guy picked that location. Don't order American Chinese food there. Get the real Sichuan stuff and you will be forever grateful. China Star is also excellent, though they finally got discovered and are always packed to the gills nowadays. I always find it kind of weird that most Chinese restaurants in the DC area are run by Fujianese folks, but they always have a great chef from whatever region they specialize in.

Not sure if it was accurate, but someone told me Lucky 3 closed.

Too bad. I really liked Lucky Three. It was always less crowded than Mark's Duck House. I left out Beijing Village, which is next to Great Wall grocery store and the Golds Gym in Merrifield. Beijing Village is sometimes fabulous, sometimes mediocre. Their Peking Duck is very good and not expensive. Their super spicy beef casserole is sometimes great, sometimes ok. Their conch is AWESOME and beef tendon ain't bad either. I like it because it kind of reminds me of a spartan restaurant in China. A lot of visiting Chinese tour groups eat there and once in a while you'll see one of them light up a smoke, as every man in China does.

For Thai, my two favorite places are T.H.A.I in Shirlington, and Thai Square on the corner of Columbia Pike and Glebe Road.

For Vietnamese, I hear there are a couple of nice places in Eden Center - Little Vietname.

Yes, Eden Center. Totally forgot about that place. Lots of very good ones and some are hidden. I don't know any of the names, but you can't go wrong there. Also, there is a total gangster bar called the Diamond Bar way in the back of one of the parking lots there. Very sketchy, but also pretty cool
