CRAP!
Well we arrived at Mark's Duck House around 1:00pm and there was a line out the door. So we decided to go to Mr. Pho's! next door! It was actually pretty good! Afterwards we did a take out order at Mark's and got some grilled pork and some pork buns. Very yummy!

asian places
I'm kind of an Asian food geek on a budget, and many of the places mentioned are top notch, but my Taiwanese friend recently took me to Hong Kong Palace in 7 Corners (near Dogfish Head Ale House). I was the only anglo there, and the food was fantastic. My friend assured me it was authentic, and I can't wait to go back. I don't think my favorite Korean restaurant was mentioned, Hee Been, on 236 in Lincolnia. Amazing place. Favorite Thai: Pilin.

The more authentic, the better. I'm not looking for American Fusion or something like P.F. Chang's.
And while you are here...
Where is the best Asian grocery store?
Thanks!

Well my personal opinions are:
1. Best Dim Sum place are:
Good Fortune Chinese Restaurant in Wheaton
and China Garden in Rosslyn Arlington - in the ABC broadcast building.
2. Best Vietnamese pho restaurant would have to be Pho 50 on Route 50 - they only sell Pho and it's always hot and good! They're located in the Loehmann's Plaza in Falls church.
3. Best Thai resturant would hands down have to be Sawatdee Thai Resturant on Claredon Blvd in Arlington - very reasonable pricing and great atmosphere along with excellent food!
4. Japanese - I'm a little bit rough on this one since we don't eat sushi, but we've been to the sushi co in georgetown, that was pretty fresh and good.
As far as asian food stores, I think the best ones are the Grand Marts which are Korean - but they have a wide variety of fresh produce and stuff. A list of asian groceries stores can be found here: Ethnic Markets in the Washington DC area

abistro

I've got this Thai Cookbook and it calls for "ground nut oil." Can someone clue me in as to what type of oil, they are talking about? Thanks.

Or possibly walnut or such. I'd go with peanut oil though - much more affordable.
