Default Dale City/Woodbridge??

I am taking a new job in Alexandria 22314. From my research, Dale City/ Woodbridge (22191, 22192, 22193) is provides housing at a fair reasonable price and a realistic commute? Is this right? Also how are the neighborhoods? Everything I am finding on realtor.com seems like a nice subdivision type area, is this correct?

Thanks!!!

Like in most cities, there are nicer areas in Woodbridge and some not so nice. It all really depends on what price range you are looking for. The "better" part of Dale City is west of Minnieville. Many people really like Lake Ridge and it has the reputation of having the better schools in the area. The good thing if you will be working in Alexandria, is that the VRE (Virginia Railway Express) will take you directly to the King Street Metro stop so you will have a good transportation option other than getting stuck on 95 during rush hour traffic. What definitely does make this area attractive are the prices here, but you will compete with other buyers for the really good deals.

I would suggest visiting the three zip codes as soon as you can to get an idea of what's available. I would also suggest renting first to get to know the area before you buy. A real estate agent who works with rentals can be invaluable when you're moving into an area for the first time. As the previous poster mentioned, Woodbridge/Dale City/Lake Ridge does have really good parts and a few that are less desireable. Overall, the area is a pretty typical bedroom community. My family likes it, and we feel safe here.

As far as commuting goes, VRE is certainly an option, as is carpooling (to use the HOV I-95 lanes). I would discourage PRTC or slugging unless you'll be working near the Pentagon, which is in Arlington.

Sorry, it's the regional bus system (The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission PRTC - The Ride That's Right For You). They run the Omniride commuter buses.
