I'm looking for some feedback on Science Focus--Arlington. Wondering what you think of the school--specifically the caliber of academics. I've met the principal and didn't really care for her. She didn't seem particularly suited for younger kids--older ones might be a better match. BUT, this was only one interaction with her. I'm hoping that some others can provide me with more feedback on their experience at the school. Appreciate any information.

I called the school directly as I had some very specific questions that I wanted to address with the principal. The secretary (also known as the gatekeeper) told me the principal was busy. When I asked her if I would likely be called back the same afternoon, she told me, "don't hold your breath." She took my info. and later called me back that the principal was too busy and would call me the next day.

What a good start, huh? Are parents just used to being talked to this way here?

Yikes! Sounds like a difficult principal to work with. But good luck, I hope you get more info on the school and things turn out well. I went to a science focused middle school and then high school and LOVED it.

In fairness, school principals ARE busy people. They meet with students, teachers, staff, all day long, and it's entirely possible that she wasn't in the position to drop everything she was doing and speak with you the moment you called, nor to rearrange her schedule in the afternoon to call you. I agree that the gatekeeper could have been more professional, but you might consider making an appointment for a future date when the principal has the time to devote to your questions.
And as you evaluate this school, keep in mind that the most important characteristic of the principal is her ability to motivate and work well with her teachers, not to relate to the children.

Yes, you've brought up very good points. I've found in the past, though, that the front office staff is either welcoming of parents or gatekeepers. The principal is ultimately responsible for this direction of her office.
