My husband and I are looking to buy a home and are considering the Chantilly area. What is the commute like from Chantilly to Tysons Corner? I want to know what I would be getting into before we make a final decision.

There will no doubt be plenty of people here who do that run...which is part of the problem. It'll be tough sledding if you go anytime around the peak. 66 is usually backed up (as in to a crawl) from the Beltway past the Vienna Metro (Nutley Street) and sometimes much further. Going up 28 to the Dulles Toll Road is probably a better bet, but that's no piece of cake either. There are some lesser roads -- 50, 29, 123 -- but there are often backups on those as well (e.g., 123 through Vienna) and if not, the lights will get you. Then you have to deal somehow with Tysons itself, which isn't easy. So, it won't be any casual trip in, but for details (and perhaps ingenious ideas), I'd wait around for folks who actually confront that trip each day. I do it fairly often, but I'm always going the other way. That's easy...

It won't be fun. You can count on traffic every day of the week. And Lord help you if you take the 123 as part of your commute.
