Town and Country vet, Fairfax - cheapest and good
Pender Vet center, Fairfax - state of the art - for serious problems

Looking at the Checkbook ratings from this past summer, both T&C and Pender were well thought of. Depending on where you are, Montrose Animal Health Center on Pickett Road (kind of behind Trader Joe's) might be worth considering as well...

I have the same question. I'll be visiting this weekend. Any good 24 hour emergency places? Thanks.

In the Fairfax area, there are two emergency clinics that I know of. One is The Hope Center in Vienna and the other is Veterinarian Referral Service [VRS] in Springfield. I've been to both and was happier with the one in Springfield. VRS has a full-service clinic associated with it and they will call in their surgeons if needed. My dachshund lost some function in her back legs on Sept 27th and the neuro surgeon there suggested that I not operate immediately. He wanted to wait and see if she healed on her own -- which she did. But he gave me a list of warning signs and symptoms and said he'd be called in at any hour if surgery was needed. Cost: $84.00
The Hope Center kept my dog for 24 hours, gave her 4 pills [Rimadyl] and one x-ray. It cost me $634.00.

The Alexandria Animal Hospital on Duke St. also has a 24-hr. emergency service. We've had to use it in the past and been very happy.

The Great Falls Animal Hospital has very good veterinarians for routine pet care. It's located on Colvin Run, north of Route 7 between Vienna and Reston. We've been very pleased.
