Hello everyone. I need a little bit of help looking for a job. I have a few years of sales and restaurant experience, and assosiate`s degree in finance and management. I`m looking for an entry bank teller`s position. What in your opinion is a good bank to work for??? I`m live in Alexandria so I`m looking around that area (including Arlington, Fairfax and Springfield).

If not bank teller what else can I look for?

Hmm, with a few years experience I would think you could apply for other bank positions, other than an entry-level teller position. What about applying to be on the other side of the glass, sitting out at the desks (customer service rep/loan officer). Each bank calls these positions different names, but they typically help open/close accounts, resolve financial discrepancies, administer loans and investments, etc. They also typically pay better than the tellers. Plenty of banks in the area. Check out BB&T, Chevy Chase, Bank of America just to name a few.

GMU, thanks for your reply!

Well, I would gladly apply for those desk positions but seems like they require slightly more then I have on my record. Also, I`m planning on staying in the banking industry for good and I beleive to know your job well it is good to start from the very bottom and work your way up.

You might want to try the Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PCFU) of which I am a member and have been for years. One of there branch offices is located in Kingstowne. I have a friend who has worked there for many years and initially started out as a teller. She is now a senior loan officer. She likes working for the PCFU - they have been very good to her. If your looking for job security this may be just the place to consider checking into for employment. They are a very strong financial organization. You do not have to be associated with the military to work there.

I second the credit union idea. Big monster-mega banks (a term coined by Atlanta-based financial expert Clark Howard) are so volatile these days and all. If I were looking a bank job, I'd want to be at a local credit union where you get to know the members (not customers) and all. I use the Arlington one and they are great.
