Warrenton would fit; Middleburg if you're going for the high-end clientele. So many others, mainly in Loudoun and Fauquier counties.

Please provide a little more info. I could start naming places, but not sure if it will suit you. How far do you want to be from DC proper? Do you you prefer being closer to water or mountains? Do you want to be in a place where it feels small, but adjacent to urban centers or be as far as possible from urban centers? And so on and so forth....

I don't really care about being close to water or mountains but I'd like a place where it feels small, somewhat of an older town with a lot of character to it.

What kind of photography will you be doing? Who is your intended clientele?

I will be doing mostly portraits/weddings/kids/etc. I also have multimedia experience.

My boyfriend researched Vienna... any thoughts?

thanks!
I have one recommendation: Waterford, VA. Waterford, Virginia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Very unique place.

From what you said, I would recommend looking at Occoquan. It is a lovely small town on the Occoquan River, and a fine photography studio would fit right in. It also has arts festivals a few times per year.

Shepherdstown, WV was ranked as one of the top small towns, by Washingtonian magazine.
Shepherdstown Visitors Center - Shepherdstown, WV They have lots of arts too. You might also look at Lucketts, VA, near Leesburg.

Consider Falls Church. It's got an old feeling to it.

Smile Virginia Towns

We do not have many real towns in Virginia.

If you can afford it Old Town Alexandria is Ideal

Falls Church traffic may be a headache

Old Town Manassas has a strong artist contingent building

Fairfax City is surrounded by the government center and is know as a college town.

Occoquan is Quaint and close to 95

Fredricksburg Va has a wonderful down town

Leesburg and Middleburg are expensive but lovely!

I hope this helps

I second this, Waterford is a designated historical site and very charming. You will be close enough to Leesburg for shopping and should find a clientele closeby.
