There are a lot of single yuppies in Arlington but they aren't gay. Dupont Circle is more of that lifestyle but even they are getting pushed out of there by the single straight yuppies. I have not noticed an uneven ratio of guys to girls. Thats probably something girls made up to get guys to move here.

Both Arlington and Alexandria have disproportionately large gay populations---Arlington has had a gay Supervisor for many years now and Virginia's only gay state delegate (that we know of) is from Alexandria. "That lifestyle" notwithstanding, I've had complete female strangers approach me at places like shopping malls and strike up conversations---go figure. My straight acquaintances/friends consider this to be a good town for guys and a lousy town for straight women. If you want to meet people around here, I'd suggest a social group or a church group, or throw parties and ask your friends to invite their single friends. Bars are fun, but don't expect to meet anyone there for a serious relationship.

Any man who wants to meet nice women should learn to play tennis and join a group of doubles players. It seems that far more women than men play, and the men I know who play are all married or retired (not that there's anything wrong with that)!

I lived in Arlington for over a year and a half and never met one gay person. It does not have a reputation of that scene either.

23rd St. just west of Crystal City does. Freddie's Beach Bar is a popular gay hangout (though as a straight guy I didn't feel totally out of place there either) and a few of the other businesses fly the rainbow flag.

LMAO! My gay references were only meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I'm far from the "out and proud" type and do not engage in any sort of public displays of affection. I'm happiest cuddling on the loveseat watching a good movie after a long day at work. I don't care if there's a "scene" or not in NoVA for the LGBT community. I was just yanking your chains (no...not in that sense!) LOL!

If you aren't into wine tasting, blowing money on expensive ethnic food, going to the theatre (not movies), saving the planet, driving a piece of crap European car (such a BMW), and other artsy / fartsy crap, your chances of hooking-up with the local yuppie, career oriented gal in the D.C. is slim. The good looking women that will drink beer with you, play pool, watch football etc., will you need to head out of the beltway.

Based on these comments, I think DC is the place for me. Except for the European car, I fit the profile described above.
