Well I will try and give as much info as possible since I have read a bunch of the other threads. My fiance works on Ft. belvoir and I will be working on andrew's air force base. We will be looking for a home somewhere within commuting distance of both places, either in VA or MD. It doesn't appear that mass transit is an option (any advice on this would also be appreciated). It is just the two of us so I am not worried about schools. We would like a single family home, about 300,000. I do like to walk, a lot, so I would like a neighbor hood that was safe and comfortable so I can walk in the evening without worry. And ideas/recommendations on neighborhoods, even developments would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

If you want safe, scratch Prince George's County, MD (where Andrews is)!!!

I would think the Route 1 corridor would be worth checking out....close to the new Wilson Bridge and Belvoir.

Try zips 22303, 22306, 22307....22308 is pricier.

If you are renting in 22306 the farther you get away from Rt. 1 the better. I'd go with 22308.

Springfield is also a good option. I'd scratch PG for mainly traffic purposes, going across the WW to Belvoir is really painful while going to Andrews wont kill you.

Try GORGEOUS Prince George's! The areas outside the beltway are nice, especially the Upper Marlboro/Brandywine area, and I believe Fort Washington is a nice community as well. PG County is not nearly as congested as Fairfax and so your commute will be easier, the living will be slower-paced, and housing much more affordable. I live not too far from Andrew AF base, and believe me, this area is safe and family-friendly. I wouldn't go all the way out to Springfield as this would be a hellish commute to Andrews, but if you stay in MD you'll be going against the traffic.
