Walking from Phillips Seafood on Waterfront Drive to the Metro Station - how safe is it? Bringing out of town visitors and don't want to drive into the district from Fairfax.

Advice??

I've done it. It was extremely safe when I did, but there were also a million people around because it was the Cherry Blossom Festival. Only concern I would have is if it's late at night, M Street is probably going to be pretty desolate.

Then again, if you're coming from Fairfax, I assume you're taking the Orange Line, so why bother transferring to Green to get to Waterfront Metro? I would get off at L'Enfant Plaza: you avoid the transfer and I think it's a little bit of a shorter walk.

That Waterfront area looks a bit shady, but is indeed pretty safe. I went there to the Theatre to see a play a while back, and I also took a riverfront cruise there for my Birthday, and I felt safe. The only thing is, a small rat ran across my path when I was walking towards the metro, and I think there's a lot of trash and homeless folk around there, but otherwise it's pretty safe.

I think there has been a crime spree lately at Waterside Mall, which is just down the street.

At any rate, Phillips isn't worth the risk....tourist trap.
