Default Need some advice on commute

I've heard conflicting reports on the following: I am thinking of living at Ft Belvoir and commuting to Andrews AFB. Does anyone have any idea on how this commute will be? Thanks.

Yes. Going up Rt. 1 and crossing the Wilson Bridge will be awful. The rest of the way on the beltway shouldn't be so bad. I can't give a good time estimate, but I think without traffic it would take 45 minutes or so. With trafiic ... I can't say.

I would seriously considering living on base at Andrews (if that applies to you). If it were me, I'd much rather be able to get to and from my job quickly so that I had more time to play and hang out. And when the spring/summer comes, this will be even more true! In your free time, you could then check out National Harbor or simply come back to Old Town Alexandria.

But just so you know, the Wilson Bridge bottlenecks run Maryland---->Virginia in the AM and Virginia---->Maryland in the PM. Good luck

Just curious...I haven't crossed the Wilson bridge at rush hour since the new lanes opened. Has this done much to alleviate the bottleneck problem? I agree the Wilson brudge used to be awful to cross at rush hour, but I would hope it is better now that the new bridge is online.

Hard to say, because traffic has been light with the holidays, but it seems to me that the approach to the bridge does flow a lot better with the new lanes.

There is still a huge bottleneck with all the construction at Telegraph Rd. though, so it's still a very undesirable commute.

How about going the other way? How is the commute from Andrews AFB to Ft Belvoir (in the morning), reversed at night? New to the area this year. Thanks for any advice on keeping the commute under control.
