I am really suprised most of Burke voted for Obama - everyone I talk to is very conservative - maybe because most are military their votes go somewhere else.

I am retired military and work for the military now. About 70% of my active duty military co-workers voted for Obama. Assuming military service equals conservative or right wing is not always a safe assumption.
Either way, most will respect your opinion not matter what it is... Burke is a great area. Good luck.

You may be surprised how many military buy homes and vote where they live.

Watching the debate, and listening to both of them, Bulova just doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed. She has no ideas about what to do about anything, including the schools! She's in waaaaay over her head already.

Absolutely right, Denton. She has nothing to say to clarify what she is going to do. On her website, Bulova has nothing to say on any of the issues. She doesn't even talk about any issues. She started Braddock Nights and she believes in "regionalism." Herrity covers a wide range of issues. We're talking about LEADERSHIP here. Regardless of whoever wins, both of them will stay on the Board. The question is who is showing leadership and a determination to address issues, including the 650 MILLION dollar shortfall. That is huge. So if you think she's a nice lady with good intentions, don't worry, she'll still be there on the Board. But Herrity has shown the ability (on the Board, in his campaign, and in his award-winning private sector CPA and CFO experience) to tackle the challenges, which is what we really need in the current economic atmosphere.

60% for Obama is average for Fairfax County. So to the extent that you can draw an inference from one contest, it sounds as though it is neither the most liberal nor most conservative area of the county but rather somewhere in the middle.
I cant imagine why any democrat would be worried about fitting in Fairfax County. Although a few GOP strongholds remain [outside of Burke], the county leans more left than right these days.

She's my representative on the County Council [or whatever it's called], and my sense is that you are right.
I'm not happy with where the Council has taken us of late. So she won't get my vote, even though I agree that she is a nice person.

Thank you DC Oldtimer. I was curious to see how moderate it has been over the past few elections and although the county leans left, like you said, some areas are definitely center or lean right (I guess I live in one of those precincts).
So Skapov, you'll be fine, but if you are curious as to how your precinct has leaned during the past elections, check out: Virginia State Board of Elections

As a County employee, I gotta go with Mrs Bulova. In my experience, the number one item on the Republican agenda is "screw the employees first".
Plus, a lot of the things that are wrong with Fairfax County today can be blamed on Herrity's daddy, Jack. The way he let developers run roughshod over this County was disgraceful. Even if the boy is only half as bad as his daddy...no thanks!
