Sharon Bulova vs. Pat Herrity (Is Burke Liberal?)

That was a long time ago! And you may remember that the last major economic downturn that was widespread and county-specific occurred under Jack's successor, who was then voted out by a large margin in the next election.

Hard to know what Bulova will do since she isn't communicating anything. Her website is an empty shell. The best protection for the county employees is a strong tax base, since that's where employee salaries come from. Herrity has strong support from the business community. The current board has let the business tax base diminish substantially; he will work to reverse that. That's something ALL residents should be concerned about in this tough economic situation. Keeping current employers in Fairfax County and bringing in new ones needs to be a top priority, not letting the number continue to decline.

Wait a minute! Bulova has been on the county board for 16 years. Our 17 % shortfall may due be to declines in real estate sales and tax revenue, but the surrounding counties shortfall is much smaller. I say we let Sharon find a job in the private sector. Herrity for Chairman.

Agreed. A telling thing about Sharon's inadequacy for this job is her website. There is NOTHING there except a resume and endorsements from her fellow party members. She doesn't even have an issues page! She does NOT say a SINGLE THING about what she will DO as chairman. NOTHING! And she is the same in debates. She thinks she can say "I've been the budget committee chairman for 17 years, so vote for me" without saying what she had done as budget chairman or what she will do as Board chairman, and we'll be impressed. Frankly it's insulting.

Congratulations, Chairwoman Bulova. We look forward to working with you in bringing continued progress to Fairfax County. The Burke precinct voted 352-300 for Mr. Herrity, by the way, so they weren't all that liberal on this particular day...

What's even sadder is that riding the coattails worked for her.
