Town of Vienna - Advantages/Disadvantages
We are considering buying a property in the town of Vienna. Can anyone give me a crash course of the advantages and disadvantages of living in the town itself vs county?
I know all about the local schools, so no need to discuss them. I just want to know about taxes, public services, etc., compared to what we pay and receive in the county.
Thanks!

One benefit is leaf and trash removal, but the homes are generally older with a lot of infills. You probably will pay an extra city tax for this, but at least there are no HOA bills to pay.

There are no HOA's in the town. That's a HUGE advantage. You can paint your house, your door, your garage, any color that you choose.
All of the following town services are free to those in the town:
Snow removal and ice treatment is VERY fast, as opposed to out in the county where where people can wait days for snow removal.
The Mayor is a frequent volunteer at the library. We see her all the time. Everyone knows her and the other counsel people. You can actually call them on the phone with any problem and the problem gets fixed. Everyone knows everyone in the town and everyone is accessible. Town Hall and the Library are filled with friendly folks.
Every town service is reliable. Town people get two bulk trash pickups a year, at any time they choose. Anything can be thrown to curbside, old furniture, rugs, tree limbs, kitchen cabinets, anything. Call the town and it gets picked up in a day, two at the most.
Regular trash and recyclables are picked up each week. Totally reliable.
Leaves are raked to the curb and throughout the fall the town comes by and scoops them. They are recycled into mulch. In the spring, call the town and they bring a huge pile, or two, of mulch to your driveway, for free.
Town police force responds within 2 minutes of a call. They will be at your home, or business, within 2 minutes.
At Christmas time, the firemen take out the old fire engine, and drive through the town just after dark, with Christmas carols and Santa. Santa's helpers give every child a candy cane. They cover every street in the town. The kids look forward to it.
Vienna Halloween parade!!! Nothing needs to be said about that since everyone has known about it and enjoyed it for the last 50 or 60 years. It's fabulous.
On 4th of July there is all day music, food, vendors, and fireworks at night.
Viva Vienna, 3 days of fun on Church street over Memorial day weekend.
Vienna Community Center has very inexpensive class for town residents, everything from tumbling for toddlers to Atlantic City trips for Seniors. They also run summer camps and tennis lessons for kids in the summer.
Town parks for little league and little kids playgrounds.
Friendly animal control officer who will bring your lost dog home.
I guess you can tell, I love the town of Vienna. It's a wonderful place to raise a family. You won't regret moving there, I guarantee it!

Another benefit is the nice network of Metro and FFX Cty Connector buses that cut through the town and allow non drivers access to Tysons, Fair Oaks, and Vienna Metro.
FFX Cty Connector provides free rides when air quality is code red, I believe.
