Where is the BRAC moving to?
Since I don't have alot of time right now to study this, I would like to ask where the BRAC is moving to in Virginia? What year? What city? Why?

I'm not in the military but live in the area, so I'll tell what I know. Fort Belvior (Fairfax County), Quantico (Prince William County), Geo Intel. Agency on Backlick Road, old proving grounds (Fairfax County). I'm sure there are other areas in Virginia. Many of these relocations are coming out of Crystal City Virginia for security reasons because of the concentration of tall buildings close together.

Hmmm...kinda scary now that I think of it. Guess America is gearing up in case of terrorist strikes there. Right?

I believe the "Base Realignment" is all over the US. Maryland is another State. My area has been gearing up for terrorist for years now.

BRAC stands for Base Realignment and Closure. A commission decided where different military operations and projects should be moved to. Decisions were made to reduce or eliminate operations in some locations and increase in others. Changes are being made all over the country. Locally, for example, Crystal City lost military offices that moved elsewhere. Fort Belvoir is growing since thousand of jobs are being moved there. Here's their website on the process there:

BRAC is also moving jobs out of Northern VA. I will personally be affected because one building in Alexandria is moving to Ft. Knox, KY. Jobs in St. Louis and Indianapolis are also moving to KY.
I have no idea in h*&$ how Ft. Belvoir will handle the influx of all those jobs traffic-wise. Rt. 1 is way too small to handle all that traffic. It will be interesting.

Fort Lee south of Richmond is also getting a lot of positions; approximately 5000+ military personnel by 2011, not to mention the government employees, contractors, etc. Many are coming from Aberdeen Proving Ground (north of Baltimore) and I believe some are coming from Fort Eustis (Williamsburg area).

I had read in the past that there would be improvements planned to nearby roads. To wit, I found more detail here in the website that was referenced earlier:

On the transit side, there was talk about expanding the Metrorail Yellow Line down to Fort Belvoir but that was before today's reality. At the very least, I'd think they'd run some one-stop buses (even more limited than the Richmond Highway Express) between the Huntington Metro and Ft. Belvoir. Maybe even across from Franconia-Springfield via Fairfax County Parkway or Van Dorn St.

As a result of the BRAC realignment, a 6,000 person facility will be erected in Alexandria's west end at the intersection of Seminary Rd and Beauregard St. It is scheduled to be completed in 2011. I don't know what branches will be there or where they are being relocated from. I can't imagine how this already busy area will handle the impact.
