I know this is an old thread, but I found it very helpful and interesting and wanted to see if anyone was able to add anything new to it. Our family is considering a relocation to the Purcellville or Round Hill area, and I, too, would be interested in learning more about what things are different about the two towns, why a family would choose one over the other, what is the "view" or "relationship" between the two towns, etc.....For example, do folks in Purcellville view those from Round Hill as simply being an extension of Purcellville, or are they viewed as outsiders, etc., clogging up someone else's grocery store, gas station, etc......For example, if you go to church in Purcellville, or belong to a group that is in Purcellville, are most of your members from Purcellville or Round Hill or just what? Honestly, everything I have read so far about both towns sounds absolutely fabulous and exactly like the likestyle we are looking for. Are the demographics of the two towns fairly similar, or do you feel each has it's own vibe or feel to it? Any other tidbits to share? Thanks!

Purcellville, Round Hill, Hamilton and even Waterford and down toward (but not including) Middleburg all kind of run together. Because the elemetary schools all fed into Blue Ridge Middle School and Loudoun Valley HS for so many years, it is really a "Western Loudoun" attitidude vs. a town v. town thing. Same for the churches, Franklin Park etc. Because Purcellville has most of the amenities, shopping, the country club, library, etc., everything kind of revolves around the town.

I didn't feel much distinction between the towns at all. The biggest advantage to Purcellville was that it was a quick drive to everything. If you buy out in the country, (and Western Loudoun loves their dirt roads)
it can get a bit tedious driving all over the place. We had one friend on Williams Gap Road that ended up moving into Stoneleigh.

That being said, there is a new high school which may change some of that. I'm sure a natural rivalry will develop between the schools. And, good luck -- glad to see someone's getting that real estate market going!!!

i recently moved to Round Hill (fall of 2009) and we love it. When we were looking, all the other houses we'd looked at were in Purcellville or Lovettsville, and we thought Round Hill just seemed too far away. We ended up expanding our horizons a little because we found that the Round Hill elementary was rated better than Lovettsville and I'm so glad i did. We live in the "town" of Round Hill, so it's actually not far and the commute to Reston/Herndon is very tolerable.

Other than a gas station, post office, some churches, a diner and a couple of general stores, everything is in Purcellville. I don't think anyone sees us as outsiders, just an extension of Purcellville or Middleburg, depending on whether your north or south Round Hill. Agreed with the other posters about the schools, the middle and high schools are shared across several communities so it's really one big "Western Loudoun" area, rather than town vs town.

If you have specific questions, feel free to contact me!

We just moved to Purcellville and so far so good. Our kids are young so not ready for school yet. We did find a good preschool/daycare for them though. We have some friends that live here as well and they really enjoy it too.

My mom and her husband just moved to Round Hill at the end of October. They seem to really like it. They have done alot of exploring and seem very happy there. My sister and her husband are building in Round Hill and should be there by May.

I think Purcellville is a neat little town. It seems to have a real sense of community. I like this and hope that we stay here for a long time though it's hard to get used to having to go to Leesburg or beyond for a Walmart or a Target. When we lived in the area before we were right in the middle of things and now that we have come back with two young kids we wanted a yard and a house.

I know this is a super old thread but I enjoyed reading it as we are considering a move to Round Hill. I am curious if it still has the small town feel the it did 5 years ago because I believe there has been more development/neighborhoods in the area since then. If you live in Round Hill- what are your likes and dislikes? Are there many community events throughout the year? We have 2 small children one of which will be in preschool- are there any full time preschool choices in the area that are recommended? We live in a small country town now so are used to driving 20 to 30 minutes for dining and entertainment- is Leesburg much further than that? I would love to hear from the OP to see what their opinions of Round Hill are now after living there a few years?

Thanks!

Don't live there so my responses are limited. But I can tell you there has been little change here. Still a very nice area to live. Your drive into the center of Leesburg is only 20 minutes.

The biggest changes in the last few years are in Purcellville. There are some new restaurants and shops with a new center being built across from the existing one with Harris-Teeter. There are new school that eased the crowding of Loudoun Valley/Blue Ridge Middle. With the widening of Route 7, expect a bit more growth. But basically the information in this thread is still pretty accurate.

Best of luck!
