Default Any info on Stonehurst THs in Fairfax (22031)?

My husband and I are thinking of buying a TH in the Stonehurst development in Fairfax, just north of Rt. 50 near Nutley Street. There are several in the $450k range, and there seems to be a lot of variety in terms of sale prices in the past 6 months. Anyone have any info on the neighborhood, construction, etc.? We like that it's relatively close to the metro (hubby works downtown), but not so close that we'd have to make major compromises on size, updates, outdoor space, etc. We are 1st time buyers just trying to make sense of it all, so we'd be tremendously grateful for any insights!

It is not an unsafe area if that is what you want to hear, metro makes it worth a try, and the resale will be better chance of being close to metro. If townhouses are what you like and you have the funds to buy it-go for it. It is a decent area.

thanks for the info! any idea on what the community is like? do people tend to stick to themselves, or meet their neighbors/participate in community events? also, any sense of whether the homes are well-built?

I was just in one of these townhouses last week, visiting someone.

I can tell you, it was COLD in there! But I don't know if that's because it was poorly built or because the person I was visiting just keeps her heat really low. They're certainly not new townhomes, though, so whatever you do make sure it's been well-maintained, otherwise your costs will go up.

They are pretty convenient to Metro, and to drive just about anywhere. And I definitely agree that the proximity to Metro will keep the value higher than in some other places. But I'm not really crazy about the area in general (I live about a mile away, off Nutley), personally. Fairfax City is great on the whole, but Fairfax Circle is kind of dumpy. And Fairfax Circle is kind of in your front yard if you're in those townhouses. In addition, there are no sidewalks on that side of Rt. 50, so it's not a very walkable area. You're fine walking within the immediate neighborhood, but it's not all that huge and outside of it, you're out of luck.

It's not an unsafe area. Not the absolute best in FFX County, but not sending you running to lock your doors and hide, either.
