Look at pension and health insurance (when you're retired)- the government benefit will be even stronger.. my parents are health insurance free for life worldwide and getting a pension- pretty strong reason to drive a bit longer..

Guess I'm in the minority but 90 minutes a DAY is more than "a bit longer." Especially when it means being away from her child.

TAke the federal job. Obama is expanding the government like crazy, you will have many more opportunities for advancement. The state is in financial trouble, your job could be abolished. With the federal government expanding, more money coming in all the time, you won't have to worry about that.

Government workers no longer get this. Retiree health insurance has never been "free" although it is offered at the same rate as the employee pays. Your parents must have been under the old retirement system which was a true pension. You do get this anymore. Now it is a 401K with a much smaller pension attached (1% of your salary for every year you work).
