I'm (fairly recently moved from NoVa ) having a disagreement with someone on a forum who still lives there as to whether crossbow hunting is now legal in suburban neighborhoods in Fairfax County. Now, the neighborhoods I lived in wouldn't let you plant a bush without permission from the HOA's. I can't imagine those people letting someone with a crossbow near their homes where children play. There MUST be some rules. I would appreciate some clarification on this with any websites that might give specifics. Thanks!

They are lying, perhaps in the Clifton area where someone owns a good deal of land, or Great Falls. You better belief if you go trotting off into the small patch of woodlands left in Fairfax and you are seen, you might find yourself facing a Swat team, tell the person who is telling you Cross bows are legal to shove it. They speak untrue.

YES it is true that some communities in the area are now allowing bow-hunting, to help lower the abundant deer population. Howard County (in Maryland) just approved bow-hunting and there was an article in Washigton Post about all this.

Once Scorned, Deer Hunters Find Welcome in Suburban Md.

"
In Northern Virginia, deer complaints have also led officials to loosen some hunting rules. The regular deer season ended last weekend, but the state has extended doe hunting until March 28 in Fairfax, Loudon, Prince William and Fauquier counties. "Frankly, we had so many complaints about damage up there that we needed to extend the season," said Julia Dixon, spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. In Arlington County, however, local regulations effectively prohibit deer hunting by firearm or bow, Dixon said. "
