Does anyone have any firsthand experience with leaving your car in a metro parking lot overnight? I'm leaving from East Falls Church Saturday morning, spending the night in the city, and returning Sunday evening. The metro attendant said it was against the rules, but I don't know whether they would tow me, ticket me, or whether there's a good chance that I would be okay.
(By the way, I know that there are several metro lots that allow multinight parking, but none of them are particularly convenient. They also seemed to be aimed at longer stays rather than just overnight.)

I have left my car overnight at the Springfield/Franconia stations several times on a Friday night (when I head over to the Ellipse to camp out for Easter Egg Roll tickets) and never had a problem. We normally parked the car about 1pm on Friday and were out by 11am on Saturday morning. Plus, my husband used to work night shift and would use the same garage. Since many people do work nights and take the Metro, I don't see how they could say no overnight parking.

There are 3 or so stations where overnight parking is allowed (Greenbelt, Franconia-Springfield and ?). At other stations it is not allowed.

Who says you don't learn something new everyday! I guess this would be a big plus for people flying or like the original poster, who just want to spend a night in the city!

I have left my car at Wheaton metro station for long weekends and never been ticketed.

It's clearly against the rules except in designated spaces at the stations noted above, but if there is any actual risk of a ticket or a tow, it would come during the week. The lots are basically unattended on the weekend and also empty, so it's kind of a "no harm, no foul" situation from my experience. I have many times left my car on a Friday morning, gone to work, then gone off somewhere for the weekend, and come back to hop right back in the car on Sunday evening. That's not to recommend it -- just to say I've never had any problems over it...
