Default Child care in Ladysmith (Caroline County)

Hi there!

I am a college graduate currently employed by the Federal Government in Prince William County and live in Caroline County. The commute is rather long and I miss being around my children, who are five years and ten months. My mother and I are planning to open an 'in-home' licensed child care center in Ladysmith, VA. I would like to open it soon (but we already have week-long vacations planned in June and one in July) so it looks like I will have to shoot for August.
I will be attending a licensing course in April in order to become licensed.
Does anyone have any thougts, advice, comments, questions, etc... on this??

All is appreciated!

You're biggest competition (by far) will be Ms. Allyson's Countryside Daycare. They have two locations in Ladysmith already. From what I have seen, their rates are decent, and their new building looks pretty good as well.

So you're going to quit your federal government job to open your own business during this economy? I'm sure a lot of people will say you're crazy, but I can relate. Good luck, and I hope you do well.

I think I would wait until the economy gets more stable before leaving your government job. It may not be that easy to get your job back once you leave if the home daycare doesn't work out. It would be very risky to give up a stable government job in this economy. Good Luck in your decision!

Hi Eric.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am sure many would say that I am crazy to consider this! It is something that I have always wanted to do and I just enjoy watching children learn new things and seeing how their imagination works.
I have looked at Miss Alysons - she does not take children under 14 months old, and I am planning on doing so, as well as children over 14 months. My son was in a home day care for a few years and me personally would put my child in a home setting rather than a center. Hopefully a lot of other parents feel the same!
I have looked at my situation with the government as well, and if this doesn't work out as I hope, I will be eligible for reinstatement - as long as there is a vacancy!

I enjoyed reading your post - thank you for taking the time to respond to mine!
Hope you enjoyed your weekend

Hi, I am actually looking for child care in Caroline county. I currently work in Richmond and my husband in Fredericksburg so with limited childcare in Caroline she is en route with me to Richmond 3 days a week. I would love to hear more about your plans for starting a in-home daycare. I am very interested in your rates/location and when you plan to open. Please send any additional information you have now or in the future to me! Caramey4@gmail.com
