Seriously, I was looking in here for some posts about Washington DC for a trip I'm taking next week and found this one, very interesting about the helicopters. Is there a military base nearby? I've noticed traffic enforcement choppers flying about in VA and TN, but it sounds like they're looking for something particular around your area. If you're out in a rural area it might be a hunt for marijuana fields or other illegal doings. If there's any major hospitals nearby, it might be med-flights. We have choppers flying in to UK, Central Baptist and St. Joseph hospitals here all the time.

Um, you're in Kentucky so you really have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. And FYI, no one asked for any political view and people always fear what they do not understand or have any real knowledge of.
Rural area? HAHA! Annandale is as I said above, inside the beltway which is far from rural.

I lived in Charlottesville several years ago, and after 9/11 I heard helicopters flying overhead every night. It was a little disconcerting at first, but I eventually grew used to it. I figured that it was the military patroling the area (although Cville is about 115 miles from DC).

You hear helicopters occasionally in Fredericksburg because it's not far from Quantico marine corps base where they fly helicopters, not because they're patrolling constantly.

I live near Fort Belvoir but I don't even notice the sound of the helicopters anymore. After September 11, the fighter jet pilots patrolling around were my heroes. I mean that sincerely. The sound of the planes lulled me to sleep every night feeling very protected, knowing that some brave patriots were keeping us safe.

I know of a few times whereby a helicopter was using its search lights to look for criminals whom were running from the police in my neighborhood...one reason of many why I am leaving this area.

That says more about your neighborhood than NOVA. I have never had a helicopter looking for a crimminal in any neighborhood I've ever lived in. Also, anytime you live near a base there will be helicopter as well as possibly military plane noise. What else would you expect?
