Hi all, thank you for taking the time to read my post. Husband and I are moving to VA soon and have found three homes but have not yet visited the area (can you tell we are a bit eager?). We are visiting this Sunday and don't want to waste any time - so from what I understand...

1. Reston to Tysons Corner takes about half an hour each way (from town center)
2. Vienna to Tysons Corner is about 1/2 hour each way
3. Falls Church past 7 Corners area and further east is somewhat unsafe; and once you get up to Tysons it's about half an hour to get past the mall intersection

I would be working mostly 9 to 5 and am deathly worried about traffic because, frankly. I'm a terribly impatient driver...would appreciate any info. We looked into living inside Tysons Corner already and will definitely check it out. But also looking at outlying areas just in case.
Thanks.

Your best bet is McLean/Falls Church (22043), with Vienna being second.

Depends on what you mean by Vienna when you estimate that it's about 1/2 hour each way. In general, many Vienna neighborhoods (either in the Town of Vienna or in the unincorporated parts of Fairfax County with Vienna mailing addresses) are only 10-15 minutes from Tysons. The neighborhoods further west might take a bit longer.

Isn't Tysons Corner IN Vienna? Doesn't it have a Vienna address? Much of the housing closest to Tysons is Vienna.

I also think it depends on how you go, what roads you use. It only takes me 35 minutes to go from Reston to Arlington in the morning.

Yes and yes - good point.

Since I didn't know the OP's price range, I was thinking about how long it would take to get to the heart of Tysons from a SFH in, say, three different, but all very nice, Vienna-area neighborhoods - Shouse Village, Elgin Manor and Pickett Estates (moving north to south). An easy 10-15 minutes, I'd think, and certainly not a 1/2 hour.

But Tysons is part of unincorporated Fairfax County with a Vienna mailing address, and there may be other areas with Vienna mailing addresses (for example, some of the townhouses and SFHs off Old Courthouse, Gallows or Idylwood) that are even closer.
