So if one considers that kind of disposition to be "ghetto", I can respect that point of view.

All of that said, I still maintain my often-repeated suggestion for aspiring homeowners to buy in the Route 1 area now before the Fort Belvoir BRAC expansion gets into full swing.
I cant say that Rt 1 South dont have some good folks though. I know a few good blue-collar folks, business owners, old folks, and nice immigrants who stay down there. But when it comes down to it, there are too many bad apples down there that overshadow the good ones.

As for your BRAC suggestion, i totally agree. Same thing i'm trying to tell my mother about Ft. Knox, KY. She wants to wait to buy, i'd say go ahead and buy and get some equity.

Yeah I can vouch for that too... some boarded up windows in the apartments/townhouses near Route 1.

Seabeewife is on a distinguished road
My husband and I moved to Alexandria in February 2009 from SC. We love it here! City-data provided us with valuable information on locations in and around the area. We live in a newer luxury apartment building near I-395. Most of the tenants living in our building are professionals like us.
