Hi everyone,
We would love any recommendations on a great area to purchase a single family home (or more relucatantly a condo), that is a tolerable commuting distance to the Bolling AFB area (across the Wilson Bridge).

We lived in Alexandria years ago, but now have an elementary school aged child. Since schools are the most important factor for us (with commute distance shortly behind it), we're thinking maybe North Arlington or McLean.

And of course the tough one - we want to stay right around $600K for the house - lower would be great. We're coming from the beach areas of LA, so we're very used to small and old. A moderate fixer upper would be fine, but with some space would be fabulous!

Is this possible? I would appreciate any suggestions!
Thank you!

Probably the Burke area....or West Springfield.

Burke and West Springfield are what also came to my mind - can take Braddock Road to 495 and then the beltway to Maryland.

There are also areas of Fairfax County with Alexandria mailing addresses (not part of the City of Alexandria) that you might want to consider, such as the Fort Hunt/Stratford Landing/Waynewood areas. The main issue there, if you plan to stay in the area for a while, is whether you'd be happy with Sandburg Middle and West Potomac High. I've seen mixed reports on West Potomac, in particular, with some parents praising the school as a great place and others complaining that there are discipline problems there that the administration does not appear to have under control. These neighborhoods would likely be a shorter commute to Bolling AFB than Burke or West Springfield.

Let me correct myself.

You said "Bolling AFB," not "Andrews AFB."

The former is in DC, the latter is in PG, across the Wilson Bridge.

Therefore, do consider North Arlington or Falls Church City.

If you meant Andrews, then consider Burke/West Springfield.
