Hi all,

Could anyone please advise me on the commute time (driving) from Vienna to Baltimore airport? We have a 6pm flight tomorrow but as we have never driven to Baltimore airport we are not exactly sure how long it will take allowing for traffic etc. Plan to be at the airport by 4pm. Would leaving Vienna at 3pm work?

Thanks for your help

No, it is about 50 miles from Vienna. I would allow 2 hours in case you run into traffic on the beltway, it can be very congested even in early afternoon.

It has taken me up to 1.5 hours to go from Tysons Corner/Vienna to Hyattsville exit (which is roughly half of your drive). I advise that you leave at 2:30. You will probably get there early but at least you would have avoided most of the traffic. (i.e. leave at 2:30, arrive at 3:30, leave at 3:00 arrive at 4:30 etc)

I missed a flight on a random Thurs evening last summer when it took me 2:45 to do the Vienna-->BWI drive (I think a 6:30 flight--I know we left at 3:30). No accidents, but it was rainy, and just volume the entire way around 495 and up 95.

I think getting around the beltway before the evening rush is the key.

Default Thank-you

Thanks so much for all of your replies! Looks like we will now plan to leave home at 2pm to hopefully give us enough time.

2:00 should be good enough to run into traffic and still make your plane. Last Friday I left Reston at 4:30 and got to Balitmore at 6:45.

I'd agree with everybody. The problem-free drive-time to BWI is just about an hour, and by leaving at 2:00, you should have a good chance of doing the trip problem-free. But if you leave much later than that, you do start tempt your luck pretty quickly. If traffic reports indicate any problem on 95-northbound, the BW Parkway is a perfectly good alternative...
