Turns out his brother's name is Todd, he might have been the one to do the installation.

Christine and Eric Thank you sooooo much for the recommendation!!! I just got off the phone with Troy and he is nice, polite, professional and beat the socks off any other estimate we got!

We talked for almost 40 minutes, (my husband was joking he could have already come and installed the shutters in the time it took us to talk ), so that shows you he has patience! Of course we were discussing not only shutters but great restaurants in Old Town, (since his Mom is visiting soon and he wants to bring her to Old Town), and all the wonderful history in the DC area!

Thanks again!

I don't know if it's too late, but I would definitely check out Snyder's Shades and Shutters - www.snydersshades.com. I checked around with a few places and they had the lowest prices by far of any other place.

They can customize the shutters any way you like: no tilt rod in the middle, different types of framing, paints or stains - they actually took a sample of the paint we used and custom matched the shutters!

Marty Simon, the owner, came out to my house to measure and give me a quote (FOR FREE!!) and he was a wonderful gentleman and had plenty of knowledge and expertise. He definitely has my recommendation.

Thank you for the recommendation. We do have someone coming to measure this week but I will definitely check out the website you provided.

To those who used Louver Shop and Troy - were you pleased with the quality? He is coming to the house tomorrow to give me an estimate but I am concerned with not being able to go to a showroom to see finished installed product. The price (he quoted me $17/sf over the phone) is pretty unbelievable though. Not much more than blinds!

Yes, very pleased. I have very odd sized windows and one of them was really crooked. The fit was perfect. I am very pleased with the product.

Some reasons that their cost is much cheaper is that they do not have to operate and pay for showrooms. That is a HUGE expense. The also don't do any weird shaped windows. My friend could not use them because of the curve of their bay window. The factory does a bunch of set sizes and that's it. For the most part, it works for 95% of the people. The other people have to go to a shop that will do something more custom.

Hope that helps calm your nerves.

I just had the Louvre (sp?) Shop out to my home to provide an estimate on four windows (actually, two Palladian windows, two windows side by side), thanks to what I read here. The guy quoted me a price for four shutters at $18 per s.f., not $17. Hmmm. The total price was a bit over $1,000, but it included the edging, shipping and tax. I'll think about it, but I may end up going with wood blinds, or just call some other places for a comparison.
