Work in Alexandria - WANT a one hour commute
I know the title sounds weird but...
I am going to be working in Alexandria but the position will be relocated to Winchester, VA in a few years. I currently commute about one hour each way in my current job and really don't mind it since it allows me to live in the country and still work in the city (if you can call New Orleans a city).
My main question is, what would be a recommended place to live where I could have a one hour commute into Alexandria for a few years and still be near my future work location? I only want to move once.

That's a tough question - Winchester is pretty far out there and it also depends on where in Alexandria - not sure if such a scenario will work out for you. If you are looking long-term (as in Winchester) I would suggest closer to there - but why can't you move after a couple years?

Leesburg or even Ashburn may work, but it would only be a 1 hour commute to Alexandria if you had very early hours. It would also be about a 1 hour commute to Winchester. The alternative is moving to Alexandria then moving to Winchester but you've already said you only want to move once. It's going to be a long commute in both directions...

I live in West Springfield and my commute is around an hour in the mornings and less in the evenings. I work in Old Town.

WoW, I just moved to Burke and I was actually considering looking for a job in Alexandria just to have a shorter commute, but you're sure it takes you 1 hour? That's sounds a little off, because currently I commute to Downtown DC from Burke and it's only a 30min. ride on VRE.

Well, I take Backlick to 95N, 95N to Eisenhower to Duke to GW Pkway. With all the lights and construction on that route, it takes a bit.
