Wow I have to say that I am very discouraged about moving out that way now also. I was thrilled about moving to the woodbridge area. I really want to move to east coast where are the good places to move?

Don't let this thread dissuade you. There are similar threads complaining about every part of the country on this board. No place is perfect for everyone. Some people, like myself, are not too fond of the DC area and expressed so here. For me, it's not a good fit. Quite a good number of others love the area and are very happy here. It's best to just read up as much as possible on this board, about the area's positives and negatives, to be well-prepared prior to setting foot in the area but I wouldn't let one thread change a long, thought-out opinion that you have and ruin your excitement.

That's correct, here's a sample of currently active thread titles:
"I didn't realize Alaska was becoming like a third-world country!"
"Kingman AZ? Is it really that horrible?"
"Southern Hospitality? Not here" (Arkansas)
"Warning Please read this BEFORE you think about moving here!" (California)
"Do you regret your move to CO?"
"Do people in Delaware hate Marylanders?"
"Is it even SAFE to attend college in DC?"
Florida has an entire sub-forum entitled "Hurricanes"!
"Is there really all this Haole Hate in Hawaii?"
"Why do people from Idaho loath Californians moving there?"
"Our governor is insane" (Illinois)
"Does anyone else not like living in Indiana?"
"What does 'not much to do' mean?" (Iowa)
"Caribou, Maine, the way life shouldn't be!"
"Why do people own pickup trucks when they have nothing to haul and no use for it?" (Maryland)
"Think hard before you relocate to Michigan."
"Is St. Cloud really this hostile?"
"Fattest state in the nation, who said it was Mississippi?"
"Montana relocation: resentment toward newcomers"
"What is the worst town in Nebraska?"
"College degrees lacking in Nevada"
"Poll: Worst places in N.H."
Okay, I didn't mean to go that long, it got to be pretty entertaining to look at these! The point is that no matter where you go, there are people who will be unhappy with it. But most people in any given area do like it, otherwise they would move! So don't get discouraged, and welcome to Northern VA!

So, you're all so sick of Northern VA, but guess what - I think I'm going to like it. I'm from the Bay Area and after having moved away for the past seven years, I'm sick of communities that have nothing to do, have horrible schools, no diversity of culture, closed mindedness, no ammenities no education, and nothing enriching to offer.
I can't wait to get there and take advantage of all Northern Virginia has to offer.

The Bay Area has none of that?!???
NOVA is pretty much like most places. In that way its as All American as you can get.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - the Bay Area has all of that. I've been away for the past seven years and I can't get back to an area that has the same types of qualities as the Bay Area.

And the irony was that I left the DC area for the Bay Area almost 30 years ago-----I was born/raised within 10 miles of the US Capitol to boot! .
As another poster alluded to: home is where the heart is
Personally; I will never live E of the Rocky Mountains due in part to the humidity in the summers as well as the nasty winters------but, that is my choice
Besides: as messed up as it is; I actually like Kingman, Az.
Presently in the Phoenix area but I have my (honorable) reasons for being here.

UPDATE on ME:
I moved out of the DC/NOVA area and by GOD it was the best decision I made for me and my family. We are all so much better off for it. Even our dog doesn't bark at people anymore - what the heck is that about?! It's weird, but in our case, it was the right decision to leave and leave we did. I don't even want to visit...or pass through even! LOL We are saving hundred$ of dollar$ in gas money. Hubby now loves his 3.2 mile commute in another state and he's making more money here doing exactly the same work for the same company.
So here's the moral of the story people, and listen closely: If your job doesn't make it absolutely *imperative* for you to be in the DC area, do yourself and your family a favor and look elsewhere, thoroughly, before you think of going to this area. You will add years to your life by avoiding it and all the stress it will inevitably yield into you.
On a more positive note, I have to say I have never met a nicer group of people than the Mormons/LDS in the NoVA area. Fantastic folks! If you're Mormon, you will at least have a fabulous support network. Good luck to everyone. I mean it!

I am sure if her husband loses his job he could find another one. NoVA doesnt have a monopoly on job opportunites.
