Default Questions- Dumfries Area

I'm moving to the NOVA area this summer. I've seen a couple of houses in the dumfries area that I like. How bad of a commute would it be to the pentagon from that area. I researched slugging and am very interested in that but what are the other reasonable transporatation options? Also, is that a reasonably safe area? Are the elementary schools decent? I've been living overseas for the past 11 years and I'm feeling kind of lost in all of this.

The houses are in 22025 and 22026.

Although some newer subdivisions (nice) have been built in Dumfries it still has it's problems overall. Although not as bad as it was back in the 80's and 90's I'd really hesitate moving there. Visit the area and you'll see what I'm referring to.

You will wish you were back overseas, after a few weeks in Dumfries.

The newer subdivisions near 234 are really nice and I believe they feed into the newer Forest Park highschool. There are 2 commuter lots on 234 that you can use for commuting. There is also a VRE (train) station a few miles north of 234 as an option.

There are also some crappy parts that you want to avoid. Don't look near Williamstown or Port-o-Dumfires for sure. Although there are some really nice homes closer to the water past P-o-D.

Thank you for your responses. I'm going on a whirl wind house-hunting trip next week and hopefully will be able to find something somewhere.

Please dont move there, you are going to hate it! Lorton is nice and you can ride the train to Crystal City.

If you're he$$ bent on PWC, I would go with Gainesville or parts of Lake Ridge. If you are leaning towards the Dumfries area, I would pick Montclair.
