Hello! I've been lurking around these forums for a while, but looks like our move to NOVA is just around the corner. We're headed to the DC area next week to visit some friends, and thought we'd check out some towns while we're there.

My DH will be working at the ExxonMobil headquarters on gallows rd, just south of 66 off 495. I will be staying home with our 1 year old. We're looking to spend around $500K, maybe up to $600K. We'd prefer a single family home, older is fine. Commute time is our #1 issue. We just have the one child, and are in our late 20's. We will probably be transferred again in less than 5 years. Any recommendations?

Thanks, Ali

You have lots of options in your price range. Vienna, Oakton, West Springfield, Fairfax, Burke, Annandale all come to mind. All would give you decent commutes to ExxonMobil. Your less than 5 year time frame is a bit on the short side though...

I was thinking Burke for sure, then West Springfield and fairfax too. Last time we were out there, I wasn't too impressed with annandale - but I didn't see much of it. Luckily, Exxon will cover us as far as closing costs and any depreciation we might see if we have to move in a short time frame. The goal is just to find a nice place to live that's not too far from work, where our family will be happy.

Check out the Annandale neighborhoods in the Woodson HS pyramid. Schools won't really be an issue for you, but it will help on resale.
The Mantua neighborhood in the Annandale area is very nice.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me . In addition to Mantua, check out Long Branch, Truro, Dunleigh, Southport. The neighborhoods down Wakefield Chapel are also nice. You have lots of options. Happy house hunting.

Lots of Mobile employees live in Vienna and Oakton. Those are nice neighborhoods for kids too.
