LOL... don't these kind of things make our husbands more endearing to us, besides giving us a reason to make fun of them occasionally

Okay, so I just went through the thread and read posts about the Coughlins selling a Townhome and buying an SFH and losing equity, etc.
Lets say they made a 20% down payment on the SFH (from the nice profit they got on the Townhome sale) and got a 30 yrs. fixed financing and are planning to stay in that home long-term and they still have their jobs, so they're still, of course paying their mortgage... and cutting a little down on their daily expenses. I see no problems with this picture... Lets chill people

Yeah, I totally agree with you. The reaction really got way out of hand.

Yes, but we had to find out about the TH ourselves. I think the true story is something we can relate to. A couple makes a nice profit, during a boom, and goes out on a limb to buy an SFH. Prices go down, and they lose all of their equity. I saw it happen many times in the 80's. When prices crashed in 1991, they had lost everything, but the survivors were very well positioned for the next boom. Same deal with the car payments (another replay of the past). People are having trouble with the mortgage--look out at the driveway.
I don't think anyone wanted to hear about the 8 yo and the manicures...
That was kind of sickening.
Had the Post given us the real facts from the beginning; the comments would have been more positive.

Why? Why was this your concern? What did that couple do to you?

I'm still trying to make the connection between a loss of equity and the need to reduce expenses. Equity is like a savings account; one doesn't live off of it.

Well, they irritated me with all the "cutting back" they were doing. Frozen prawns instead of fresh, getting manicures only instead of manicures and pedicures, buying less designer clothes, the zoo comments....Give me a break.
Their version of reality and the article seemed a little bit "out there". I can see why some folks decided to do a little fact checking.

It's kind of like Barrack's mosque attendance; I was curious.
