Taking care of Visa paperwork at the Royal Thai Embassy of Laos. There are some really cool medieval castles to check out, also.

I've banked with Chevy Chase FSB for over 2 decades. No complaints at all. They're terrific. And as a regional bank, you don't have the worries of overinvestment/exposure to bad loans as much. They're all over northern VA.

I also have a credit union account and highly recommend that.

Good luck. Good question.

I use Wachovia have used them for two years before moving up here. The main reason I kept Wachovia is that there are lots of branches in VA and DC. Also they have Wachovia in GA so when I go home I don't have to worry about foreign atm fees.

You're kidding, right? Chevy Chase FSB was up to their waists in toxic mortgages. I say "was" because Mr Saul just sold the place to Capital One (the credit card company with the funny TV commercials) for fraction of it's pre-boom value. Saul is a terrific gentleman, whom I've met, and I was sorry to hear he steered his bank into an iceberg...

Anyway, look out for changes that Cap One might sneak into the fine print.

So far, the acquisition hasn't changed anything for Chevy Chase (a "wholly owned subsidiary" of Capital One), but who knows.... We've been Chevy Chase customers for over 11 years, and you can't beat the convenience of so many branches and ATMs everywhere, but we've been looking at some alternatives in case we need to jump ship.

Nice link. Wow, I'm jealous. Laos is one place I've never been, I hear it's really interesting.
