I would not choose to live in Manassas, especially as a new college grad.
You'd be going against traffic driving from Reston to Manassas, but it's a bit of a hike. Depending on where you live in Reston and where you work in Manassas, you'd probably take the Fairfax County Pkwy to 66. I'd estimate at least a half an hour on a good day, maybe more.
Another place to look at might be somewhere near Fairfax Corner. Still a bit of a hike, but a little closer, I think. You could hop right on 29 and take that all the way into Manassas.

mapquest says it's 21.46 miles from 20110 to 20190. Thirty minutes? Not even in the middle of the night.

The OP wants to do a reverse commute. Still, it would not be great. Look, I did this commute for 10 years (going from Manassas to Reston) and leaving at 6 AM it was a 35-40 minutes commute to the intersection of Fairfax County Parkway and Sunrise Valley Dr. from the northern edge of the City of Manassas (just across the line from PWC). In the evening if I left work at 4 PM it was usually a 45 minute drive. To other parts of Reston it would be even longer. My commute was 18.5 miles - actually on weekends I could make it in just 30 minutes. It also depends from what part of Manassas - from Battery Heights apartments add on another 5-10 minutes actually.
I would think Fair Lakes area is pretty nice, and not far from Reston to go there in the evenings if one wishes. The reverse commute is not so bad, I did it on occaision when working weird overtime hours. I never timed it as I was too tired and just glad to be back home. I used to work at what's now Lockheed in Manassas by the way, but I was there back in the good old days when it was IBM, and left right as IBM sold the division to another company (Loral) that eventually got bought by Lockheed.

For those who aren't reading the OP's entire post the commute if from Reston to Manassas. Not Manassas to Reston. Which of course means they will be going against traffic each way if they work traditional hours.

No. He moved away many years ago and she was living in Stafford Va. last I heard. And it's Bobbit.

John Bobbit can stay far far away from here. He's had a string of arrests since leaving the area, including domestic violence stuff. Good riddance to him. Someone I know - her daughter was taking college classes and said his ex-wife was in her class, and had remarried. She keeps a low profile, unlike her ex-husband. At one point I believe he was in a porno video, and did some other outrageous stuff. What a black eye they gave to Manassas though!
